As in the past, Bay County Amateur Radio Operators - HAMS - will provide communications for the Gulf Coast Triathlon. Hams will be stationed at each Aid Station to maintain communications between Race Officials and the race course. This provides "up to the minute" information to Race Officials to help the race run more smoothly.

The Gulf Coast Triathlon will include relay teams. To stimulate equal competition between relay teams and individuals, the relay teams will be required to go through the same transitions as the individuals. The relay teams are separated into four separate categories. These categories are:
- Mens open relay team
- Womens open realy team
- Mixed open relay team
- Masters open relay team
The Following Rules apply:
- Mens open relay team; all team members must be males.
- Womans open relay team: all team members must be female.
- Mixed open relay teams; must have at least one male and one female team member.
- Masters relay team; all team members must be over 40 years old as of May 10, 2007. Team may be composed of all males, all females or mixed.
- Swim team member must tag cyclist team member within the designated swim-bike tag area. The swim-bike tag area is located along the path between the swim finish and the transition area. The cyclist's bike must be racked in the transition area and the athlete shall leave his or her bike shoes and helmet with the racked bike until after the swim / bike exchange is made.
- Cyclist team member must tag runner team member within the designated bike-run tag area. The bike-run exchange area is in the relay holding tent in the transition area. The cyclist must rack bike and remove helmet and bike shoes before tagging runner.
- Individual triathletes can be a swimmer on a relay team but must start the race in the relay wave and not in their age group wave. Once the swim / bike exchange has been made, the individual may continue the race with his or her individual race number.

Welcome to the Gulf Coast Triathlon, America's best
Half-Iron distance race!
The race consists of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and a 13.1 mile run.
The swim is in the Gulf of Mexico. Seas are generally calm but the gulf water conditions can change rapidly and the surf can be rough. Water temperatures average 73 degrees. Wetsuits may be allowed based on water temperatures and in accordance to regulations by the USA Triathlon. The allowance of wetsuits will be decided on race morning.
The bike portion of the race travels through residential, commercial and rural areas of Panama City Beach and Bay County. The course is flat and fast with head winds averaging 15mph.
The run is an out and back course traveling through residential areas of Panama City Beach, home of the World's Most Beautiful Beaches, and St Andrews State Recreation Area, one of Florida's most popular State Parks. Temperature averages 85 degrees with high humidity.
Aid Stations are plentiful (every 10 miles on the bike and 1 mile on the run) with the friendliest volunteers offering you encouragement and refreshment. Stations will have water, Gatorade, fruit, nutrition bars, cookies and medical aid.
This year's event will include:
-a three-day sports exposition
-a Friday night pasta dinner including A mandatory pre-race meeting for last minute announcements
-a Saturday night celebration dinner AND AWARDS with video highlights of this year's race!
During race time I would also like to remind you to thank the volunteers and sponsors for their outstanding support without which this event could not happen.
The GCT Committee and I wish you the best of luck at this year's GCT.
Happy Racing,
Elizabeth Whitton
Interim Race Director
